About the Spohr-Score Project

Hans Krauss: art director, musician and researcher.

Hans Krauss, the long-standing director of the Louis Spohr Music Centre in Braunschweig, has made it his task to make the “spohr legacy” – as far as possible – internationally accessible. Regionally he also appears as a piano and accordion teacher, whose student-oriented didactics are quite comparable to those of Spohr.

He's a huge enthusiast of the composer Louis Spohr and his many compositions. With this project he wants to share some collected knowledge about this quite unknown artist and offer information related to him, such as dates for radio concerts which you can find in News & Dates. If you like to know more about his work, you will find publications and teaching-offers in the Education section. Personal and career related information are listed on the Vita page. About Louis Spohr

Louis Spohr was a German composer, violinist and conductor

The composer and conductor Louis Spohr, born in Braunschweig in 1784, is regarded as a trend-setting composer between Classicism and Romanticism and was on the same level as Beethoven and Mendelssohn at the time. In addition, he was, alongside Paganini, the most important violinist of his time and a gifted music educator.

With his wide-ranging musical activities, Spohr was one of the essential pioneers of modernity and exerted a lasting influence on the development of international contemporary music: among other things, by energetically promoting the rediscovery of Bach and Handel and the performance of contemporary works such as those of Richard Wagner.

Since nowadays only the first editions of many works by the then highly esteemed composer exist, it is the aim of "Spohr-Score" to gradually make his work available in readable new editions.
